Birth Doula
What the hell is a birth doula, and why do I need one?
A birth doula provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to their client before, during and shortly after childbirth. This helps with continuity of care and works with your birth team to create a safe and respectful birthing experience.

As a Birth doula, I work around Market Harborough, South Leicestershire and Kettering/Corby, North Northamptonshire. I am happy to travel up to an hour from Rothwell, North Northamptonshire.
Hospitals covered include the University Hospitals of Leicester (Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI) and Leicester General Hospital (LGH), a stand-alone low-risk unit (St Mary's Birth Centre), Kettering General Hospitals, and Northampton General Hospital (Barrett Birth Centre and Labour Ward).

So what do I get when getting doula support?
Each family, pregnancy, birth and postnatal experience is different. This means that each client I support will receive personalised support depending on their needs. But each family receives:
-
Continuity of care: Unlike the health care professionals who work on rotas, you book me for a set amount of time to attend your birth, and once I am there, I am there for the whole time.
-
While I am part of the birthing team, I am non-medical. This means I am not advising you on what I think you should do with your care. I will support you in making decisions and help you see different perspectives, ensuring that each decision you and your birth partner make is fully yours and informed.
-
Meeting beforehand means that you get to know me and trust the person in your birth space.

I am dedicated to providing unbiased, evidence-based information to empower you to make informed choices—whatever those may be. I’ll be there for you regardless of where or how you choose to give birth, whether this is your first baby or your fourth. My role isn’t to make decisions for you but to provide the information, a listening ear, and a sounding board, so you can make the best choices for you—without judgment.
Though every birth is unique, here’s a general idea of the ways I can support you:
-
Help work through any worries or concerns
-
Explore all your birth options (including birthplace, pain relief, etc.)
-
Review previous birth experiences
-
Discuss and practice biomechanics for birth
-
Support various birth positions
-
Assist with creating a personalized birth plan
-
Help you with postpartum planning
-
Be on call for you 24/7 from 38 weeks until little one(s) is here
-
Offer continuous labour support including biomechanics to help alleviate pain or help get the baby into a better position.
-
… and much more! (We’ll cover specifics during our consultation)
Birth is a powerful and emotional experience, and I’ll be with you every step of the way—whether you’re preparing for birth, going through labour, or adjusting to life with your new baby. My mission is to support you through it all, including the postpartum period.
